Good old Memories, shortwave Radio Happy Station, Radio Netherlands, Now on-line Internet Radio
As I was searching for some things on-line, I came across some links that brought back some memories. I came across the links for some stations that I use to listen to, Radio Netherlands and HCJB www.hcjb.org Back when I was about ten or eleven years old, we lived in North Haven, CT and in in 1971 my family and a friend of the family went up to Maine for a month.
We rented a cabin on a lake in Maine( I think it was called Silver lake) The first cabin was OK but the second one was great! it all raw wood and a big old fire place in the living room. One night our friend brought back a small portable radio back with him, that he bought in town. it was a small 5 band radio with brown leather side and a telescope antenna. You know the type, Fm, AM, VHF1 VHF2 and shortwave band( I think it was A RCA or a Zenith) That night after dinner, we went to the living room next to the fire and turn it on and we started turning around the shortwave band. Then we got this station playing bells. Then came the ID it was from Holland http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/" title="http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/" target="_blank"http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/ ( I was so excited to be listen all that way across the world!!! don't for get no Internet then!) and we listen and after the news came a show called Happy Station.
Happy station http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/features/media/ dossiers/startz030623.html" title="http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/features/media/ dossiers/startz030623.html" target="_blank"http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/fea... aired on Sunday nights on shortwave. it started at 0230HR GMT or now UTC, on 6.145 MHZ. LOL LOL I still remember the time and freq it was on :) The Host was Tom Myer and the show played Music, read letters, news, and just about any topic for family shows listeners. once in awhile he did talked or brought in his dog, I think it was a great Dane or one of those big dogs. Well I was hooked and listened every night for the next fifteen year or so.
In 1975, I bought a Radio shack DX-160 www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1975
for $160.00 and still have it today. I Listen to show wave for 1971-1994 and then I took the test for my Amateur radio license and been a ham for eleven years http://www.arrl.org" title="http://www.arrl.org" target="_blank"http://www.arrl.org now and talk to other stations all over the world, both on Microphone and CW(Morse code); In Amateur radio of some one has there license for ten years they call him Old timer!! I am not sure I like that LOL LOL. The one time in Maine, started a long time love of mine for radio and still do. There is something about the crackles and fade outs and freq mix and station mix that was some thing to listen to late at night. You could go all over the world by just listen to the radio. It was great that time in that cabin, next to a fire going!
Now, its not the same to listen to the radio on-line, you can listen to radio, but you don't have the same sounds and the crackles and fade outs. That was special and it was more of a challenge back then and mean more also when you did get them. Let me know if you had listened to this show or you know of it or the station. It just set off some memories. Other then that, not to much new. The weather is getting colder(thank god for that) and I am still working on my Art and music. let me know what you think, by leaving a comments.

There are a few station that I didn't add to this post. On the same station Radio Netherlands.
The His and Her show on Tuesdays at 0230Hr GMT: the hosts was Jerry and Jody. Jody was the wife and little off the wall and say and laughing at stuff all the time. He more grumpy type yell or be stern with her and I am sure he wanted to slap her many times about the stuff she said on the air(she wasn't even blond!!). The show was just about the same as Happy station.
station HCJB: this was on at different times, on was 0300Hr on 11.940MHZ. The station had some good shows on it. It's most a Church station but it had DX Juke box, DX club and some others.
Some other station was Radio Germany, Radio Cuba, Radio Canada and radios South Africa (RSA) with the wind pip and cheapen birds for the station ID. Radio Peaking, Radio China and Voice of America. of course, cant for get a big clubs of that day Speedex and Radio monitoring club.
All these have a special place in the old shortwave listeners hard and now just a memory. I stop now I don't want to bore you to much LOL now I got it out and I said it, now I feel better. Don't for get to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts about this or your memories of shortwave listening or any other thoughts.
