Memories of Childhood Literature and what we Read now!

Memories of Childhood Literature and what we Read now!

Some of the great memories I have are the simple but fun stories I heard as a child such as, Dr Seuss and others children literature.  Anyone who knows me, knows my passions are art, music and literature.  Yes, I am a book worm!  Always have a book not far off or listening to my classical CD or Jazz(I do like rock classic rock also.)

Theodor Seuss Geisel
Dr Seuss  1904-1991

Dr Seuss one of the great writers of children literature, and art work.  He was Born in 1904 on Howard Street in Springfield, Massachusetts. He  attend Dartmouth Collage where he wrote for the school paper, but he and his friend was was kicked out for having a Drinking party(Hmm I wounder if thing one and thing two was the interrogators?)

How many of us remember the great stories of thing one and thing two. The cat with a Red and white  strip pipe hat that cheerfully goes to place To place. The green eggs and ham and the great Christmas story of Grinch who stole Christmas with Mary Lou from Hooves-ville. The story that rhymed and flowed with the story.

You can more more detailed information about the man and his work at www.catinthehat.org/history.htm

With some others, that I don't want to for get like Dick & Jan  with  Sally and spot the spotted dog

The New We Work and Play, Dick and Jane  (cyc 1956)

Someone told me of my error in the dogs name(from Tip to Spot) I thank them for telling me and I fixed my error,  but do anyone rember a dog name tip?? it sounded so right and I seemed to remembered a dog named Tip.. any one?

You can get the history of Dick, Jane, Sally and good old Spot at: www.tagnwag.com/dick_and_jane.html  How many of us Remember reading "See dick throw the ball. See tip run and get the ball run tip run!"  Simple yes but all great books for kids.  From 1930's to the 1970's, these books where use in most schools from grade K-4th.  Now as an adult, we move on to other great writers as Hemingway, Wolfe and Jack London  just to name a few.

What great stories and books you remember form your childhood?  What do you read now? What writers do you like now and in the pass as a kid?  Are you a book worm and read a lot of books?   let me know, I would like to know.

I like "Green Eggs and Ham", "Madeline" is a favorite too.
I remember it as Dick, Jane, Sally, Spot the dog, and Puff the cat.
Those books are in reprint now.

In Springfield MA, there is a wonderful park dedicated to Dr. Seuss with a museum.
There are also several other museums right in the area. If anyone has a chance to
visit, it is worth the trip.

I remember a dog called Nip & a cat called Fluff in the school readers
starring Dick & Jane (or was that Dora?!). I was born in '64.
My mother used to read to us every night when we were children, I can remember
lots of fairy tales, & loved them. I learnt to read before I went to school,
it just seemed to happen naturally.

I don't know anything about that >__< what a shame! Guess thai people (like me) don't know much about that :O( But well, I am a book worm, a big one. My fave books are chick-lit :op (might seem nonsense for you :op) But I had to study 'Ernest Hemmingway's works' before, and I loved his works since, now I've had only half of all his works, still trying to find though :D And I did really great with this subject (Got A+) yay!!! And another one is that 'Mitch Albom', I started with 'tuesdays with Morries' and 'The five people you meet in heaven'. Loved them :)

Ps. what is subscribed? :op could you please explain?

I remember "Tip" this was my very first reader, therefore I have fond memories of my first reading efforts which included, "No, Tip, no. no No, No Tip., No Tip no". This is my attempt to look for it, but thanks to previous Jackie who has "never been able to find anything" I guess I won't either.
