The Bar Harbor Trip and stop to Cadillac Mountain.

The Bar Harbor Trip and stop to Cadillac Mountain.

The Bar Harbor trip started at seven O’clock in the morning.  The trip took us two hours, with a stop for briefest. On one of the small main country roads, We found this little Restaurant/gas station called-Moose Crossing. The Moose Crossing is a red log cabin style building with exposed beams and a lot of old county type items hanging from the wall-such as, an old wooden sled.  It was a great briefest ever!  I had Eggs, Home fries and Texas Toast-downed with lots of great tasting coffee - the stop was well worth it and I would go back again. It was a very friendly place and it was welcoming.  After we ate and taken some pictures of the place, we were on our way again.

We arrived at the gates of Acadia Park, and we started our ascent of Cadillac Mountain - we drove up the mountain-the road was narrow and wined up the mountain.  The views were amazing and every stop was more so then the last one.  At about the midpoint, there was a lake called Echo lake, that was formed from the glazers and the changing of the land.  One of the mountains is called a bubble mountain - also formed from the shifting glazers;  At this point, the air got thinner and breathing was a little harder and your ears started to pop.  The valleys wined around the many mountains in the park and around the whole area.  Any painter or photographer would enjoy, capturing these mountains on canvas, paper or film; the views are the best landscapes I have seen for a while.

About late afternoon, We made the summit, the summit is 1,530 Feet above sea level and the best views of them all.  You are able to see Boston from the summit and faded but you are able to see the tips of the buildings of New York City.  After taken many photos of the summit,  We went to the gift shop to pick up some souvenirs of our trip to Cadillac Mountain.  After our spending spree at the gift shop, it was time to make our descent.  Our next stop was Bar Harbor, it’s a Small quint seaside port, with many small shops and many places to eat.  Walking down the docks and looking out at the bay, with the fishing boats, fairy boats and other small boats. The views and the sent of the salt air, brought me back memories, when we spent summers on my fathers boat-down around Toms River, NJ and other places my father had his boats.  There were many Fishing boats and large net boats with the smell of bait on the decks and down bait holds.  Many crew and boat owners were out working on their boats, one was Sending the deck and cabin/wheel houses-that view brought back a lot of not so great memories.

The Summit sign, that was on the gift shop building.

We walked up and down the docks and the streets of Bar Harbor and stop in and looked around many of the small stores and gift shops. One shop that I wanted to stop in was a music store, called The Music of The Sea. They had many nice things in that shop, one was, Bag Pips that I always wanted to learn but never had the wind for it. Now it was time to stop for breather.  We stopped at this, open air Restraint with a bar on the top deck, and had a beer and look out over the bar-really I had only one!   Well, I did try this beer that was unknown to me called Lobster Beer.  It was a nice beer, a little bitter but it had a great taste to it.  A more rich and heaver beer - I enjoy drinking Samuel Adams beer, So That’s why I like this one.  The Bar tender was nice enough to let us have an example of this beer.  After subbing off deck and down the dock like three drunken sailors on leave - Not really but it sounds good, my mother and sister were with me and wouldn’t do that.   We walked around some more on our way back to the car and head to the restraint for dinner.

We ate at this Sea food restraint that was very much in the rough.  The place was a mad house and we had to share a table with two other families.  It’s sitting where you can and don’t be shy who you are sitting next to. They cooked the Lobsters outside in sea water on a fire in a brick fire place.  The food was great and we enjoyed our meals - I had to eat steamers and corn for my meal, I’m allergic or had a bad lobster one time and almost died. After dinner, We stopped at this Ice cream place for desert.  We Had this great ice cream called, Maine Wild Blue Berry, the best freshly made on site Ice Cream that I’ve ever had!  The Day was very enjoyable and had a great dinner. I hopefully I can go back soon to Bar Harbor.
