Defining the 70's
Warning, this is a long eatery call it my flash back blog!!
Not to long ago, I'd received three E-mails from visitors of my Blog, and Email and They asked me how I would define the way of the life in the 1970's. I would expect, most of them were two young to remember or were born in the 80's. It took me a while to be able to define that time of the thing we have now then now, terms that we use, different attitudes, the music, the dress, way of life. That I said in an earlier Blog. I will try to give you my thoughts on this subject.
When I look back now on the 70's, I have mix feels about it. Most of the memories are good memories; we did have some bad thing going on back then as to day. Of course, they were no such thing as the internet or even computers then; there were computers in large companies and school but, but main frames and punch cards. Very few home owners had PC’s back then most of those were in kit forms and hard to build, no plug and play at that time. That did come to be until the 90's. Hard drive was a portable tape recorder, and modems were phone cups that you put the receiver of the phone. Maybe only 10% of use had computers back then. Most of the attitudes were left over form the 60's and the hippy generation. We were known as"Me Generation," and the Disco was the big from 1977 -1979. Some of the normal days to day words were, Far out, groovy, peace, Hip, get down, trucking one, etc. the pet rock was in and strove lights and disco balls and Icons of the day on the wall was the thing to have.
The rock music was still from the 60's style and but 70's music was a new twist to the style. Artists like Peter Frampton, Alabama, REO, Cool and the gang, KC and the sunshine band, bee gees(disco style), and so many other, set the attitudes the music was part of use. All of them were late 60 and came to life in the 70's.
In the early 70's the army jackets and had bands and long hair was in. Vietnam was just ending and the 60 styles were still in. Big flare bell bottoms and bell bottom’s prints were in. I look at pictures of me now and laugh at my long hair and beard as a teen and the shirts and close that we wore back then. Tie die shirts and string shirts were the fads of the day.
But, as to day as then, it wasn’t all Happy and care free. We had the Vietnam war, the hostages in the Olympic game and the Iran Hostages. We also had the gas shortage in the mid 70's and where I was most of the 70's New Jersey New York we had the Son of Sam running around killing teens and young couples in park cars and like now Hijacking of planes(the first on was in 1967 and went on from there) Gas was 55 cents a gallon and cigarettes were that a pack also, six packs were $2.45. Drive inn moves was big entreatment( hmm i won't comment to much on this ;) ) or disco. On TV we at Saturday night life roots and many of the great shows you see on reruns to day.
Some of the things have change with each generation as it different ways of life. It was a strange time from the jump of the 60's way of life of hippies and love children and the drugs. To me generation my generation, We had a different way of looking at thing and lay back more. I like to think of it as the great 70's. The 80's came in with rap music(Grrrrr rap!!!) But there you have it! I hope I cover most of the 70's and define it for you.
